A conceptual offense gives players shared principles for creating and using advantages. Spacing, shot selection, triggers and responses to defensive coverage help the team coordinate while players choose what to do in the situation in front of them.

The coach still shapes how the team plays. The difference is that players have permission to use an opening before a planned sequence reaches its final action.
