This is a bit of a ‘catch 22’ scenario! While we make use of BRADs extensively at Transforming (original credit to Sefu Bernard), we don’t believe in having a list of external cues that are uniformal to every player. The reason is this implies that there is an optimal way for each player to shoot.
I believe that using external cues is all dependent on attractors and fluctuators in shooting. This is the dynamical systems part of ecological dynamics. Because every player will be unique with their movement solutions and ‘attractor wells’ pertinent to their shot, we don’t think there’s a catch all external cue in shooting other than BRADs.
For instance, maybe a player struggles with power generation and self-organising in a functional manner to generate power. The external cue “shoot like a spring” could be useful in such an instance. This is because there is still lots of room for the shooter to self-organise freely as opposed to telling them how to shoot.
This is why there is a limitation with some of external cues being used nowadays which attempt to “micromanage” the movement and natural self-organisational process within the jump shot. For instance, using an external cue in an attempt to get a player shooting the ball from an idealised position almost defeats the objective of using an external cue. Cues should be used to promote exploration as opposed to confining players to the “one” shooting solution.
