Coaching case study
The Starting Point
George's interview describes his work with the MK Breakers in Milton Keynes. A central question for him was how to create challenges that were relevant to each player's capabilities, rather than expect every player to solve a problem in the same way.
What Changed in Practice
- Used players' individual constraints and action capabilities to understand different solutions.
- Focused on the relevance and challenge level of practice activities.
- Drew on summer camp, the membership, small-sided games material and the Youth Conceptual Offense course.
What George Noticed
George describes a faster rate of player progress after making challenges more relevant. He identifies understanding individual differences as a fundamental change in his own development as a coach.
