Coaching case study

The starting point

Line coaches regional basketball in southern Sweden. After encountering the approach through the Swedish Basketball Federation, she used several forms of learning to connect the terminology with what was happening in her practices.

What changed in practice

  • Used the podcast to build her understanding of the framework and language.
  • Used video examples for inspiration when planning activities.
  • Became more willing to change the practice plan during a session to adjust the challenge.

What Line noticed

Line reports that players were having more fun and making better decisions. She also describes becoming more confident in adapting the session and sharing ideas with other coaches, supported by the network she developed at summer camp.

01

Where are you from and where do you coach?

I’m from Sweden, where I coach a regional team in Southern Sweden.

02

How did you discover Transforming?

I was introduced to the ideas through the Swedish Basketball Federation and later the Federation arranged a coaching clinic where Alex Sarama participated as a speaker.

03

What Transforming events or products have helped you the most?

The podcast helped me understand the framework and terminology. Video and film clips helped me with inspiration when I had none. And the Transforming Summer Camp helped me understand that I am going in the right direction while serving as an excellent networking opportunity to meet other CLA coaches around the world!

04

What changes have you seen in your coaching and with your team since using these ideas?

I have become better at changing practice plans on the fly in order to adjust the level of the challenge during practice. The players are having much more fun during practice, and they have become better at decision making. I also enjoy being able to inspire and mentor other coaches.
